Ty-Layshia West had a goal of throwing 43’4″ to qualify for Nationals this season.  Last season Ty-Layshia qualified for the emerging elite throwers by throwing over 39’10” as a Freshman.  The throw today of 44’2″ is also a school record beating her own previous throw of 42’10” this year.  Ty-Layshia thrives under pressure of big meets.  Her best throws of her career have came at the most crucial moments in very meaningful meets.  The mark today makes her the lower state champion and possible the record holder in that meet as well for AA.  Former Burke and current Ole Miss thrower Raven Saunders has the state record with an amazing throw of 56’8″.  Saunders throw beat the previous state record of 45’5″ that stood for twenty plus years by Ayaka Green of Westside.  Green went on to have a throwing career at Anderson College.  After throwing 44’2″ today West had responses on social media from some big time college coaches.  One coach simply posted “Wow,  congrats dude!  Give her my best!  Ty-Layshia will throw next weekend at the state meet.
