Game Recap

The Panthers dropped a hard fought game at Saluda 27-0 Friday night. The loss was the third straight in the series, the first time since 1971-73 and was the first shutout in the series since 1980’s 20-0 loss at Saluda.

B-L lost starting quarterback Bishop Cannon on the second play from scrimmage when he was dropped for a seven yard loss on a scramble. After the teams exchanged punts the Tigers went up 2-0 as Tay Wison was tackled for a one yard loss in the end zone with 4:29 to play in the first quarter. Saluda would then drive 48 yards in eight plays for an 11 yard touchdown run by quarterback Noah Bell to make it 8-0 with 1:22 to ply in the first quarter. The extra point was blocked by the Panthers. The score would stay that way throughout the second quarter.

In the third quarter the Tigers took the opening kickoff and went 52 yards in six plays with Bell connecting with Jay Baker for a 20 yard touchdown. The kick was again blocked and Saluda led 14-0 with 9:43 to play in the third quarter. B-L would then mount one of the best drives of the night as they reached the Saluda 17 before the drive stalled and the Panthers turned the ball over on downs. Three plays later Bell passed to Caleb McDaniel for a 16 yard pass to cap a three play, 80-yard drive. The kick was no good and Saluda led 20-0 with 4:10 to play in the third quarter.

Again the Panthers would fight back as they drove to the Tiger 23 before again turning the ball over on downs. The teams would exchange interceptions before the Tigers added a one yard touchdown run by Kentavious Burton with :32.9 remaining in the game. Hunter Blackmon’s kick made it 27-0.
