Game Recap

The Batesburg-Leesville Panthers traveled to Aiken County and picked up a 27-20 come from behind win over the Silver Bluff Bulldogs. The Panthers improved to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in Region 5-AA with the final regular season game next week at Calhoun County.

The Panthers opened the game by driving 68 yards in five plays with Tay Wilson scoring on a 49 yard run. The Wells Hallman kick made it 7-0. Silver Bluff answered with their own scoring drive but the two point conversion failed and B-L led 7-6 late in the first quarter. In the second Silver Bluff scored twice to lead 20-7 at the half.

Just as the week before the Panther defense tightened up in the second half while the offense focused on their ground game. On the Panther first possession of the half they went 74 yards in 11 plays with Keshoun Williams scoring on a four yard run. The kick failed and B-L trailed 20-13 midway through the third quarter.

After another defensive stop the Panthers scored quickly as Jalik Oakman raced 50 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the drive. The two point conversion run by Williams was good and B-L led 21-20. Meanwhile the defense was busy forcing turnovers as they finished the night with three interceptions (Williams, Pat Burgess and Tristan Wheeler) and a fumble recovery by Burgess. B-L would add another score in the fourth quarter as Bishop Cannon scored on an eight yard run. The conversion attempt was no good and B-L led 27-20 with 4:22 remaining. Silver Bluff would be forced to punt on the ensuing possession and B-L was able to run out the clock.

Oakman finished with 118 yards on 14 carries while Wilson had 107 on 14 carries. Cannon finished with 95 yards rushing on 13 carries and also passed for 166 yards as the B-L offense tallied 504 yards of offense.
